Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM)

Abstract

On February 22, 2000, the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) completed an unprecedented 11-day collection of radar data to generate nearly global topographic maps of the earth. The interferometry techniques employed by the mission were pioneered at JPL in the late 1970's developed through a continuing airborne radar program, and demonstrated in space with SIR-C in 1994. This talk will review the development of the technology that enabled SRTM, and give a glimpse of some first results.
