Deep Space Network (DSN) History

  1. Uplink-Downlink: A History of the Deep Space Network 1957-1997 (Washington, D.C.: NASA SP-2001-4227, 2002) by Douglas J. Mudgway is now available in fully text-searchable pdf files on the Web. This book is an excellent history of the Deep Space Network (DSN), the critical component necessary for tracking, controlling, and transmitting data to and from spacecraft. Now over forty years old, the remarkably reliable DSN has quietly but essentially functioned as a literal guide for a variety of evolving, unique planetary spacecraft. ---- NASA History Office.
