ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Steve Synnott earned a Ph.D. in Astrodymanics from MIT in 1974 and has since been employed at JPL, specializing in navigation of interplanetary spacecraft. He has been involved in the Viking, Voyager, Galileo, DS1, Cassini, and Stardust missions. He is the supervisor of the Optical Navigation Group at JPL.
