ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Gina Signori

Gina Signori, the owner and president of Deep Space Communication Systems, has more than 12 years of radio frequency (RF) system design, analysis and development experience for deep space and interplanetary missions. She holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Blacksburg, Virginia).


Ms. Signori led the design, development and operation of the Phoenix telecommunication system for the cruise, landed and complex entry, descent and landing (EDL) phases for the Phoenix mission.


She began her career working as a field engineer repairing and maintaining geophysical observatories located in remote sites in Antarctica. She moved on to work as an electronics technician on a marine research vessel sailing between Chile and Antarctica. She has contributed to the design, integration and test of the telecommunications subsystems for several Lockheed Martin interplanetary missions including Genesis, Spitzer, Odyssey and Stardust/NeXT. She is currently serving as the telecommunications lead for the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN (MAVEN) space exploration mission.
